Dabaso Tujengane initiated a community-based Jigger Control Project in 2012 in response to the suffering caused by jiggers for many in the community, since no organisation, nor the government was doing anything to assist. The project has grown to include the neighboring Community Units of Jimba, Mida, Mijomboni, Kakuyuni and Uyombo; known as WAJIMIDA Jigger Campaign. see "where we work". The Community Health Volunteerss (CHVs) treat community members in their homesteads and at schools, using an extremely effective herbal oil, containing neem and coconut oils. The CHVs also counsel community members on how to protect themselves from further infection. The group partnered with TOMS to distribute shoes as part of their One-for-One program.

  • Apply coconut oil to feet, morning and night as a repellent
  • Keep compounds and inside house clean 
  • Seal floors with mud, cow dung or cement
  • Spray floors with neem solution: soak neem leaves in fresh water for 4 days
